Hey there! I’m Goke Pelemo, and this is my personal corner of the internet. I believe in being transparent about how I handle your information when you visit my site, so let’s talk about it in plain English.
Who I Am
I’m the person behind gokepelemo.com – this is my personal website where I share my thoughts, experiences, and insights from my journey in tech and beyond. Think of this as my digital home where I connect with readers like you.
When You Leave Comments
When you take the time to comment on my posts (which I really appreciate!), here’s what happens:
- What I collect: Your name, email, website (if you share it), your comment, and some technical stuff like your IP address and browser type
- Why I need this: The IP address and browser info help me catch spam comments so our discussions stay meaningful
- Your profile picture: If you use Gravatar (that service that shows your picture next to comments across the web), I might pull in your profile photo. You can check out Gravatar’s privacy policy to see how they handle things on their end
About Photos and Media
If you ever upload images in comments or elsewhere on my site, here’s a heads up: photos from smartphones often include location data (called EXIF data). Anyone can potentially extract this information from images on the web, so you might want to remove location data before uploading if privacy is a concern.
Let’s Talk Cookies
Cookies are small files that help make your experience on my site smoother. Here’s what I use them for:
Comment Cookies (the helpful ones):
- If you comment, I can save your name, email, and website for a year so you don’t have to retype everything next time
- This is totally optional – you choose whether to save this info
Login Cookies (if you have an account):
- A quick test cookie to see if your browser accepts cookies (deleted when you close your browser)
- Login info for 2 days (or 2 weeks if you check “Remember Me”)
- Your display preferences for a year
- A temporary cookie when you edit posts that expires after a day
Embedded Content
Sometimes I’ll embed videos from YouTube, tweets, or other content to make posts more engaging. When I do this, those other websites might track your interaction with their content just like if you visited their site directly. Each platform has its own privacy practices, so you might want to check those out if you’re curious.
Who Gets Your Information
I keep your data pretty close to the vest. The only time I share anything is:
- If you request a password reset, your IP address goes in that email (for security)
- Comments might get checked by automated spam detection to keep our conversations genuine
How Long I Keep Your Data
Comments: I keep these indefinitely so our conversation history stays intact and I can automatically approve your future comments without delays.
Account info: If you register for an account, you control your profile information and can update or delete it anytime (username is the exception – that’s permanent once chosen).
Your Rights Over Your Data
You’re in control here. You can:
- Request a file with all the personal data I have about you
- Ask me to delete your personal data (except stuff I legally need to keep for security or admin purposes)
- Update your profile information if you have an account
Just reach out to me directly if you need any of these things.
Where Your Data Goes
The main place your data might travel is through the automated spam detection service that checks comments. This helps keep our discussions focused and valuable.
Questions?
This is my personal site, and I’m committed to respecting your privacy while creating a space for meaningful conversations. If you have any questions about how I handle your information, don’t hesitate to reach out – I’m always happy to chat about this stuff.
Thanks for being part of my online community!
